These are the class of 1966 officers. Arthur Hammerschlag (valedictorian) is on the top left. I still have his psychology book. Tommy Gminski, (Arkansas razorbacks) who was one of the top football players that year, is middle bottom. Is that Mike Nixon from Hickory on the bottom right? The other 3 faces are very familiar but the names escape me. Would have to get out my 1966 yearbook - 36 years is a long time!

Last history lesson from me (for awhile) with a correction. Mike Nixon is on the bottom left - a 1966, senior class officer. The individuals in the class of 1966 were all gentlemen (all really nice), while the class of 1967 was at the opposite extreme, "wild" and constantly getting in trouble; I think Cap Wiese really aged from 1966 to 1968. Long hair, Vietnam, drugs with the concomitant experimentation and associated overdoses, teenage rebellion, assassinations (JFK in 63 [7th grade for me], Bobby Kennedy in June, 68 [beginning of Summer Break in Myrtle Beach] and MLKing in April, 68 [beginning of Spring Break from Patterson with the associated riots], acid-rock and hard-edged music due to the Rolling Stones (and their ilk) - all started kicking in - no more crew cuts! At one point in the summer of 1965, the top five hits were all Beatles - more of the same in 1966 plus the popularized drugs associated with them and the Stones, Haight-Ashbury, and Vietnam. Drug use spiraled in this country in 1967, although Patterson was still a safe haven, sequestered far out in the "boonies". Didn't Cap finally retire in May, 1968 with Headmaster Finch taking over my senior year? The class of 1968 was classy; the class of 1969, eclectic (but we all wore tuxedos for the yearbook picture); and the class of 1970, enigmatic and interesting. Those in 1971 to 1974 were already a different and younger set of individuals, a by product of the hippie generation with Disco beginning in the summer of 1973 (and ending in the summer of 1980 but still played endlessly in bars) coupled with the end of Vietnam and culminating with Watergate, the oil crisis and embargo (with gas prices shooting up from $0.29 to over $1.00 in just a few months with gas rationing, shortened gas station hours, and long gas lines), the resignation of Nixon/Agnew, and the great recession stock market crash of 1973-74. But, enough history from me. Where are the rest of the alums from this era with additional "historical" memories of Patterson and the world to share? Are any of them still alive and computer literate? George R. Bryant (1969) Thanks for the memories.
