Upper School Curriculum

Physical Education & Health

Health
Grades 9-10, One Credit (required for graduation)
Students will develop an understanding of how their bodies function, how to prevent injury and disease, and why health is important to the human community.

Physical Education
Grades 9-12, One Credit (required for all 9th graders)
Students will develop the life long habit of physical exercise through sports and physical training.

Horsemanship
Grades 9-12, 1/2 Credit
Students will learn about the different breeds of horses, anatomy of the horse, general care and nutrition of horses, and first aid for horses. Students will take care of tack and learn to halter, bridle and saddle their horse. Students will learn to walk, trot, canter, and trail ride. THey will gain a better sense of balance, muscle control, overall posture, and sense of rhythm. Riding provides students with a competitive atmosphere adn allows students to achieve independence and confidence. All lesson will be taught at the Patterson School Equestrian Center. Note that individual lessons can be arranged for an additional fee. These lessons are not part of the regular school curriculum.
