“Providing a framework for continual maturation of the whole person
throughout life”
-
Mr. Floyd Finch, 4th Headmaster, 1967
The Patterson School strives to continue educating
young people in the spirit and tradition of its founder, Samuel
Legerwood Patterson (1850-1908).
The tradition includes a strong commitment to the students, the
community, and God. Honor,
integrity, dedication, and the value of hard work are important
aspects of daily life on the Patterson Campus.
These enduring values continue to be the cornerstone of the
school’s mission to provide quality education in a family-like,
Christian environment.
Description and Philosophy
The Patterson School is a private, non-profit, co-educational,
non-denominational boarding and day school dedicated to providing
college-preparatory education for grades 9-12. The
development of the whole person (Dedicate Nobis Totis) in a
Patterson education focuses on developing the skills, knowledge,
experiences and attitudes necessary for a student not only to succeed
in an appropriate college, but also to be successful and happy in
their professional career and life.Since 1909, The Patterson School
has sought to educate mind, body and spirit. The school's educational
philosophy is inspired and informed by its commitment to Christian
values and its Episcopalian tradition.
Patterson educates the mind through college-preparatory academics,
developing the skills, knowledge and experience necessary for success
in college, career and life. The Patterson curriculum focuses on
mastery of the knowledge essential for college success as well as the
thinking skills necessary to make wise decisions essential for life. A
variety of elective possibilities are available and are often dictated
by individual student inclination.
Patterson educates the body through an active student life program
that combines athletics, work, community service, and opportunity for
artistic expression within a family-oriented environment of caring
staff. Academic and leisure activities are intended to lead to an
appreciation of diversity, self-discipline, teamwork and the beauty of
the natural environment.
Patterson educates the spirit through regular, non-denominational
worship and study activities that encourage reflection on, and
development of, faith, reverence, humility and respect for self and
others. The students are encouraged to take moral responsibility for
their own actions and to develop a sense of consideration for others.
At The Patterson School our "family" educates for living because
our goal extends beyond scores, grades and performance. We aim to
provide a safe place for young men and women to grow intellectually,
emotionally and spiritually so that our graduates will embrace life,
faith, hope and love. |
